The Head of Operations is accountable for guiding, mentoring and enabling the Mining, Processing, Maintenance and Engineering functions to provide safe, efficient and cost-effective leadership of their areas in alignment with the business strategy, objectives and goals to deliver and exceed key performance metrics for safety, health, productivity, quality and cost. In addition the Head of Operations is responsible for supporting the project execution team through informing the operational readiness plan to successfully deliver the Red Chris Block Cave to budget and schedule and in collaborating with the Manager – People and Development to define and execute the Block Cave workforce transition plan.
Facilitate cross departmental co-operation and collaboration to maximise business value; ensuring site and corporate strategic initiatives are translated into business goals.
We are seeking (1) individual for a Fly In, Fly Out opportunity working on a two weeks in, two weeks out rotation.

Leads, develops and maintains a business focused, high performance culture to deliver production, engineering and maintenance objectives as per the Budget and Life of Province Plan through focus on duty of care, operational discipline, value creation and continuous improvement. Ensuring that mining, processing, maintenance and project engineering activities are undertaken safely and healthily in alignment with Newcrest expectations and in compliance with the prevailing health, safety and environment regulations.
Instilling a culture of excellence, accountability and discipline across maintenance, operations and engineering.
Championing and enabling with employee and business partner workforces within areas of accountability Newcrest’s four pillars of safety: Newsafe, Critical Control Management, Process Safety and Psychological Safety.
Setting and measuring performance expectations to instill a culture of operational excellence.
Instilling effective management practices, processes and a progressive culture across current and future operations and capital projects through the proactive identification and elimination of risks and hazards to realise the company vision of zero fatalities and life altering physical or psychological injuries.
Maintaining operational risk registers and protocols in alignment with company standards and expectations ensuing newly identified or developing risks are effectively recorded and mitigated.
Developing and owning incollaboration with the department leads the operational and maintenance budgets, life of province plan and supporting production schedules.
Effectively managing costs and quality within all areas of accountability to ensure that cost targets are met and surpassed and that quality of execution of all works meets the expected standards and is delivered to schedule.
Guiding, mentoring and assisting business partners in areas of accountability to safely and healthily execute their activities whilst respecting IBCA and environmental commitments to deliver outcomes that meet the expected standards, schedule and costs.
Ensuring a culture of continuous improvement in business processes, team and individual development and activity execution is enshrined in all areas of accountability in the pursuing of value add and efficiency.
Enabling Surface Mining operations to be executed safely and efficiently to schedule and design with focus on operator competencies, compliance to plan, effective and correct utilisation of equipment, rigorous setting and application of quality standards and expectations, minimising and evaluating the cause of unplanned production losses to eliminate repetition.
Delivering the Block Cave infrastructure to schedule and design through effective oversight and guidance to the team accountable for Underground Mining development activities and the associated contractors.
Realising Processing Operations operating time, throughput and recovery targets through progressively debottlenecking, automating and optimisating all elements of the plant.
Participating in process and metallurgical design studies to ensure that planned process plant expansions operable, maintainable and delivered to schedule and budget by the Block Cave project execution team.
Integration and alignment of Maintenance planning, reliability, condition monitoring and execution practices across fixed plant, mobile, electrical and site services to realise efficiencies and synergies.
Enabling and driving the transformation of Maintenance practices from reactive through planned to proactive to deliver high quality services and outcomes across all maintenance disciplines in terms of cost effectiveness, planning, execution and continuous improvement to realise and surpass target equipment availabilities.
Maintaining currency of Operational Technology deployed in the support of Mining and Processing operations to ensure that maximum benefits and efficiencies are realsied through effective application technological, communications and process control solutions whilst effectively managing the risks of obselecence.
Establishing an Engineering capability suitable to site needs to enable the design, planning and execution of projects to support plant debottlenecking and infrastructure improvement.
Derisking operations and maintenance for seasonal changes to eliminate downtime events caused by severe weather conditions.
Collaborating with Supply and Warehouse to deliver positive operational outcomes to realise the availability of the correct parts and materials to enable delivery of equipment availabilities and production targets.
Qualifications & Experience:
Degree qualifications in one of Mining, Engineering, Processing or Geology
Proven experience in managing Surface and Underground Mining Operations
Tactical and strategic planning skills
Minimum 20 years of professional experience working in industry with at least 10 years in an operational leadership role
