POSITION SUMMARY: Assists the Activity Director in providing a diversified activity program for all residents. Maintains records, attends interdisciplinary meetings, transports residents to and from activities. Performs varied clerical and departmental maintenance functions.
ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS
A. Job Knowledge and Role Responsibilities:
Demonstrates knowledge of age specific developmental factors specific to adult and geriatric residents (i.e. physical, cognitive, and socialization factors) in providing activity programs.
Demonstrates knowledge, skills, and techniques necessary for providing activities for residents with the following needs: therapeutic, neuro & dementia, dialysis, IV therapy, and infectious diseases if applicable.
Attends all mandatory inservices by the employee’s anniversary date.
Acts appropriately under the direction of the Activities Director and acts as an active member of the interdisciplinary team.
Demonstrates ability to adjust to changes in unit/shift assignments to meet resident and family needs.
Communicates and observes the Corporate Compliance Program effectively and complies with Code of Conduct when performing work functions.
B. Administrative/Resident Care Responsibilities:
Performs activity programs according to facility calendar.
Notifies the Activity Director of needed repairs, equipment and supplies.
Maintains a system of records including resident information, progress notes, attendance logs, discharge summaries, Resident Council Meeting minutes and activity assessments/plans for each resident on a daily basis.
Provides personal services for residents such as writing letters, mailing packages and transporting to community events when transportation is available.
Interviews new residents to learn about their needs and interest in various activity programs.
Attends resident care conferences to identify problems and obtain goals and approaches to be implemented in the care plan.
Utilizes and assists in the supervision of volunteers during programs and parties.
Assists Activity Director with the seasonal dcor of the facility.
Assists in transporting residents to and from activities.
Keeps track of department timesheets and delivers them to the Activities Director on Friday of each week.
Keeps an up-to-date cardex of residents’ birth dates.
Performs light housekeeping tasks, such as cleaning up after parties and programs, when necessary. Keeps office area clean as well as desk and surrounding areas.
C. Role Responsibilities-Interpersonal Skills:
Is aware of, and adheres to, Resident’s Bill of Rights and Confidentiality of Resident Information.
Interacts with residents, family members, co-workers, clinical and ancillary staff in a non-judgmental, supportive and calm manner.
Addresses resident and family satisfaction issues immediately by reporting them to the Supervisor in a professional manner.
Is aware of Resident Abuse Reporting Law.
Participates as assigned in the orientation of new staff and demonstrates a positive, helpful, and enthusiastic attitude.
D. Role Responsibility-Safety:
Demonstrates ability to locate emergency equipment (i.e. fire extinguisher).
Understands and demonstrates knowledge of role in Fire and Disaster drills.
Demonstrates ability to identify and respond appropriately to potential behavioral outbursts.
Uses facility equipment safely.
Recognizes, removes, and/or reports potential hazards.
Follows established safety rules/accident prevention.
E. Resident Care Responsibilities-Infection Control:
Demonstrates proper handwashing techniques, as appropriate.
Maintains proper food handling techniques and ensures glove usage, when necessary.
Disposes of waste properly.
Understands and maintains activity/kitchen sanitation procedures, when necessary.
F. Resident Care Responsibilities-Resident Dignity:
Addresses residents in a respectful manner.
Discusses confidential resident information in appropriate areas only.
