The Payload and Ground Systems (PGS) division of Northrop Grumman’s Space Systems sector seeks team members who want to solve interesting, complex problems which protect our nation. We are a trusted mission payload and ground system provider with extensive experience providing end-to-end mission solutions from concept through operations and support.
We have an opening for either a Principal Systems Engineer or a Senior Principal Systems Engineer to join our qualified, diverse team. We are seeking a team member who wants to solve interesting, complex problems to help protect our nation. We are a trusted mission payload and ground system provider with extensive experience providing end-to-end mission solutions from concept through operations and support. The team you will support is located at our Space Park campus in Redondo Beach, CA.
What you’ll get to do?
As a Systems Engineer on this team, you will support a team of engineers to define, develop, decompose, analyze, verify, and validate requirements for the ground segment of a satellite system. In this role, you will be interacting with the customer and leadership to define and maintain the technical baseline. Ultimately, it is your responsibility to drive the program through maturity and milestones to achieve the mission, ensuring everything is synchronized.
This requisition may be filled at either a Principal Systems Engineer level or a Senior Principal Systems Engineer level.
Basic Qualifications for a Principal Systems Engineer:
Bachelor’s degree in STEM with 5 years of related experience, or a Master’s degree in STEM with 3 years of related experience
Verification experience with focus on requirements selloff at CSCI & Element levels
Team player, ability to work with stakeholders (internal & external) coordinating verification plans & execution, resolving interdependencies.
Ownership of verification artifacts, ability to assess test/verification evidence leading to VERID/ACTID closure.
Modify/Enhance Verification products as required (Traceability, RVPs, ACTIDs, Analysis, etc.)
Direct experience using the DOORS Requirements Management Database
Active DoD Top Secret Clearance with the ability to obtain SCI access or active SCI access .
Basic Qualifications for a Senior Principal Systems Engineer:
Bachelor’s degree in STEM with 9 years of related experience, or a Master’s degree in STEM with 7 years of related experience
Verification experience with focus on requirements selloff at CSCI & Element levels
Team player, ability to work with stakeholders (internal & external) coordinating verification plans & execution, resolving interdependencies.
Ownership of verification artifacts, ability to assess test/verification evidence leading to VERID/ACTID closure.
Modify/Enhance Verification products as required (Traceability, RVPs, ACTIDs, Analysis, etc.)
Direct experience using the DOORS Requirements Management Database

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with Agile development
Effectively communicate and present to project and program management, other technical managers, and customers
Familiarity with Model-Based Systems Engineering languages (SysML/UML) and concepts.
Excellent technical writing and team building skills.
Interface with Gov’t/SETA technical team, adjudicate & resolve any surfaced CRMs.
Salary Range: $104,600.00 – $157,000.00Salary Range 2: $129,700.00 – $194,500.00
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
