This position is focused on a combination of functional management responsibilities and technical work within a large User Experience Team. The right person for this position has a strong background in Web Development, User Experience Design and/or User Experience Research and has had some level of experience preparing statements of work, managing projects and mentoring others. Our ideal candidate has software/web development experience and understands how to integrate User Experience with Agile methodologies. The right person for this position also understands the value of creating partnerships and shared understanding with cross-functional disciplines and stakeholders. This role is generally 80% technical work and 20% functional management.
We will consider telework candidates for this position but have a strong preference for the candidate to be located near the Huntsville, AL site or one of the listed locations.
Roles and Responsibilities:
• Lead functional management activities for direct reports including approving timecards, hiring, mentoring, designing career development activities and supporting company required activities
• Support the broader management team by helping with operational activities, strategy and change management
• Prioritize requests for support through a strong understanding of business needs
• Develop statements of work by working with Product Owners, Stakeholders and SMEs to understand requirements
• Mentor and engage across disciplines, teams and projects
• Provide a positive working environment for direct reports
• Partner cross-company with other UX leaders to scale design and research practices at Northrop Grumman and to staff opportunities
• Complete technical work alongside functional management duties and maintain a balance of technical and management work

Basic Qualifications:
• BS/BA in related field and at least 5 years of professional relevant experience (or 3 years with a Master’s degree) In lieu of education, 8 years of additional exempt related experience will be considered
• Experience mentoring others or similar leadership experience
• Knowledge and direct experience with implementing Lean UX practices
• Previous hands-on experience doing Web Development, UX Design, Research or UX Development
• Ability to evaluate other UX professionals development skills, design abilities and research knowledge for the purposes of hiring
• Experience with SAFe agile or in an Agile environment
• Experience or knowledge of UX prototyping and design applications such as Axure, InVision, Sketch and Adobe Creative Cloud apps
• Must be a US Citizen and eligible to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance
Preferred Qualifications:
• Hands-on Digital Transformation experience
• Strong understanding of Digital Transformation including the importance and function of disciplines like DevOps, MBx, and Agile
• Previous functional management experience
• Background in DoD software development and/or web development
Salary Range: $108,700.00 – $163,100.00
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
