Mō tēnei tūranga | About the role
You will be supporting the Director of the office of the Deputy Secretary, and the wider office in Te Pae Aronui. This is an opportunity for someone who is looking for a chance to join the Ministry and to become a trusted advisor supporting a senior leader.
The office of the Deputy Secretary is a busy, bustling environment where we work across the entirety of the work programme of Te Pae Aronui, this includes but not limited to Attendance and engagement strategy, Alternative Education, Evidence, Data and knowledge across the education sector, community work programmes, Te Hurihanganui, The equity index, Ka Ora, Ka ako – Healthy school lunches, COVID 19 and much more. The work is vast, and interesting.
As the Personal Assistant to the Director, you will support them to achieve goals by managing their diary, managing information flows, and providing a range of administrative, coordination and secretariat services to the Director and the wider office of the deputy Secretary.
The role will be suitable for someone with previous experience as an Administrator and a willingness to learn and do the mahi. In return, this role will offer a collaborative working environment and career progression opportunities within the organisation.

You will bring your high attention to detail, calmness under pressure and the ability to anticipate the needs of the Director and the wider team. You will have sound computer knowledge, experience with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel and Word, etc) and will be able to perform your duties with considerable confidentiality, initiative, and mature and independent judgment.

Te Pae Aronui – one of the largest groups in Te Tāhuhu. Te Pae Aronui has a critical role to play in supporting a proactive and future-focused Te Tāhuhu that delivers on equity and excellence for all ākonga. By 2025, we aspire to transform Te Pae Aronui so that: People are thriving, connections are strong, the system is sound and we are producing equitable outcomes for ākonga and whānau. This is an exciting opportunity to make some real, positive change in education of our ākonga.
Over the next three years, Te Pae Aronui is being set up to operate at its full potential. Te Pae Aronui Rautaki 2025 – our strategy sets out Te Pae Aronui’s strategic goals and aspirations. We are building on the solid foundation that has already been created and making changes to the way we work in Te Pae Aronui, underpinned by the Tūāpapa of Te Mahau.
The Office of the Deputy Secretary supports the Deputy Secretary Te Pae Aronui (Operations and Integration), and the teams within Te Pae Aronui, to achieve strategic and operational objectives and to build a great working culture and environment.
We are an agile and responsive team that maintains good relationships across all parts of Te Pae Aronui, Te Mahau, Te Tāhuhu and Minister’s office. We are wanting to hear from any kaimahi with a keen interest in applying their skills and experience to support the achievement of our strategic outcomes.
