Ocado Group Looking for Software Engineer Intern at Las Vegas, NV Full Time

Haddington Dynamics (part of Ocado Group plc.) is an advanced research and development company applying cutting-edge reconfigurable supercomputing technology to low-cost, ultra precision motion control for robotics, 3D printing, and automation.

Haddington’s innovation in the low-cost robotics space as well as our deep knowledge of additive manufacturing have produced our family of purpose-built 5-axis robots that are fully trainable and human-safe. We leverage accessible, high-level languages for applications including 3D Printing, PCBA, and our current focus: merchandise pick and place. Our current FPGA platform processes 2M measurements per second, enabling 50 nm resolution, 50 μm repeatability, and real-time force feedback. The processing speed and resolution, combined with Haddington’s haptic algorithms, make the robot intrinsically human-safe and capable of manual training.

As an intern on the Software Engineering team you’ll work alongside some of the best and brightest minds in the the fields of robotics, machine learning, software, electrical, and mechanical engineering. The environment is incredibly dynamic with an emphasis on failing fast. Our teams are encouraged to try out cutting edge technologies and innovative ideas on a daily basis. Sometimes these result in breakthroughs, and other times you learn something. So where do you come in? Our ability to fail fast and innovate is critically dependent upon knowing when something breaks or fails. We want you to come and break it. Our products emphasize performance, safety, usability, scalability, and maintainability. If we’ve come up short in any of these categories, it’s your job to find it and fix it. You’ll have the opportunity to experiment with, fix, optimize, and monitor the control system that powers Haddington’s entire fleet of robots. Now I ask you, are you ready to come test some robots?

Primary Responsibilities

• Developing hardware in the loop testing capabilities as well as improving the coverage of our unit tests (python, C++).
• Collaborate with other software engineers to incorporated improvements toward our control system base on the test results (C, C++)
• Learning about the latest developments in robotics
• Ensure architectural integrity and product quality across team efforts
• Design, code, test, debug, and document software components
• Assist troubleshooting problems in development and production environments

What You Bring

• Expertise in designing, developing and operating complex software solutions
• Provable experience developing in modern Python or C, C++
• Familiarity with Linux command line
• Comfortable in using source control software (i.e. git)
• Keen interest in working with robotic arms
• Excellent analytical, problem solving, communication and organization skills

Bonus Qualifications

• Knowledge of C, C++, Python, embedded systems
• Comfortable developing in Linux (ideally Ubuntu)
• Unit tests or hardware-in-the-loop testing knowledge
• Comfortable with Docker and CI/CD pipelines (e.g. gitlab ci)
• Specific expertise in any of: control systems, real-time systems, distributed systems, robotic manipulation, applied statistics and design of experiments, data visualization
