Pan Pac Forest Products Limited Looking for Manager Technical Development at Napier, Hawke’s Bay Full Time

In the role of Manager Technical Development, the primary focus of your role is to advise, develop and evaluate technical solutions for the Pan Pac business and be able to communicate between Pan Pac and its ultimate shareholder Oji Holdings Corporation (Oji) or reporting division Oji Green Resources (OGR) for all technical, engineering, environmental, safety or other aspects that are required.

You will support the business with your proficient Japanese oral and written language skills, engineering knowledge and experience, business acumen and knowledge of Japanese culture and shareholder business processes to assist in developing and maintaining the businesses ongoing technical compliance requirements, capital project developments and approvals and ensure documentation requirements set by the shareholder are met for all business activities associated with your role.

Effective communication and relationship building is a crucial part of your role. This will be achieved through your facilitation and leading of communication between Pan Pac and Shareholder to maintain and continuously improve technical understanding and development for both companies. While also maintaining relationships within Pan Pac, Oji and OGR to achieve positive outcomes and promote efficiencies in workloads. You will ensure information is communicated effectively between shareholders and Pan Pac. Further to this participation with the development of technical and engineering strategies and initiatives that support the companies longer term growth plans and aspirational goals is a key part of the role.

This role has a shareholder operating in a different time zone, so you must willing to work extended hours to meet the requirements of both the Company and a shareholder.

About the person

We’re looking for someone who has proven senior leadership capability in a manufacturing or industrial environment. You’ll have a background in engineering, excellent relationship management skills with the ability to speak and write fluent Japanese being essential.

This role has management responsibilities so your business acumen coupled with your ability to engage, influence, and lead high performance teams will be crucial in contributing to the business success.

To be successful in the role you will have:

• Experience in the field of engineering.
• Experience interpreting and understanding Japanese business culture.
• Proficient in oral and written Japanese and English.
• An understanding of Japanese cultural sensitivities.
• A sound thinker who is focused on cost effective solutions to enhance business competitiveness.
• Proficient in the speaking and writing of technical and engineering information in both Japanese and English languages.
• Proficient knowledge of Japanese business documentation and methodologies. Especially those methods associated with effective communication of technically specialist aspects.
• Strong interpersonal, relationship and influencing skills and capable of engaging people at all levels of an organisation to get “buy in”.
• Strong commercial acumen and customer focus.
• Able to demonstrate credibility and presence within the Company.
• Strong analytical skills, including a strong aptitude for modelling and analysing business decisions.

Along with this it is essential you have engineering experience in the manufacturing industry, and knowledge of the shareholder policies, procedures, and processes.

Underpinning this will be your tertiary qualification in business, industrial engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, chemical engineering, or operations (or equivalent) preferred
