Title: Senior PHP Developer

Reports to: Development Support Team Lead

Position Description:

As a key member of our Development Team, you will provide our clients with quality solutions, utilizing a range of core technologies and development techniques. Working as part of a cross-functional project team, your clear communication and strong interpersonal skills will be just as important as the technical experience you bring.

This role is also responsible for driving the continuous improvement of processes and adoption of new techniques within the team. You must be able to work autonomously, yet collaboratively at the same time.

Job Responsibilities:

• Bug fixes, refactoring and support for NZ Leave
• Write PHP code to a high standard, following best practices and Astute Payroll development priorities, ensuring future developers can read and understand the code written and post-testing adjustments can be made easily.
• Help with the ongoing improvement of our software through the development of new features and a strong focus on post-release bug fixes.
• Fix long-term issues and improve legacy code by working closely with and under the guidance of the Team Lead and other senior developers.
• Participate in discussion related to using the right tools to develop and implement features.
• Generate unit tests to avoid regressions of work.
• Review the code of other team members and provide constructive feedback, to improve our code quality and ensure that it adheres to agreed coding standards.
• Provide accurate estimates of effort for development.
• Communicate clearly and promptly when roadblocks to on-time work completion arise.
• Provide assistance and advice to other developers.

Experience and Qualifications required:

• Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a PHP engineer
• Experience with AWS preferred.
• Working knowledge of Elasticsearch
• Strong debugging skills and attention to detail
• Strong OO skills and understanding of design patterns.
• Experience with DevOps tooling, including Docker, Kubernetes and Ansible
• Understanding and background in industry best practices, with a willingness and flexibility to accept the processes used in the Astute development team.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Can work independently as well as collaboratively in a close-knit team.
