The Senior Technical Writer is the team lead for researching and preparing technical documentation, publications, and related documents (e.g., technical reports, technical advisory committee meeting presentations); reviewing and editing material to ensure accuracy, completeness, and consistency of information within documents and between related documents. The Senior Technical Writer will also develop and maintain standard operating procedure documentation for the Psychometrics department.
Responsibilities:
Prepares assigned technical reports for production by making initial document updates and identifying subject matter expert (SME) contributors.
Manages the technical report production process. This includes reviewing and organizing content provided by identified SMEs, monitoring the quality of written material, and resolving production issues as they arise.
Drafts & edits technical advisory committee pre-reads and presentations as assigned.
Reviews and edits technical advisory committee notes if requested.
Develops & maintains standard operating procedure documents for the Psychometrics department
Edits and updates existing materials.
Produces requested documents using the required software tools (typically Microsoft Office & Adobe Acrobat).
Creates illustrations such as screenshots, charts, and other simple graphics.
Performs quality assurance tasks such as proofreading materials for conformance to established standards and style guides and branding guidelines.
Provides input on estimating timelines for documentation completion.
Manages to agreed upon schedules.
Experience and Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required in technical communication, English, communication, or journalism, or equivalent work experience required.
Minimum of 5-7+ years of experience as a professional writer or editor required, technical writing experience a plus.
Minimum 5 years’ experience with Microsoft Office required (proficient with Word).
Must have strong ability to write clearly and concisely, with strong editing and proofreading skills
Ability to communicate effectively with software development and technical staff and to interpret technical content and rewrite it for a less technical audience.
Must have good planning and organizational skills, including the ability to work on several projects simultaneously, adapt to shifting priorities, and manage time well.
Must have good analytical and problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
As required by the Colorado Equal Pay Transparency Act, Pearson provides a reasonable range of minimum compensation for roles that may be hired in Colorado. Actual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and specific office location. For the state of Colorado only , the range of starting pay for this role is $80,000 – $100,000. This position is eligible to participate in an annual incentive program, and information on benefits offered is here.
