JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Penn State’s School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science is seeking a systems administrator to join our team of technologists dedicated to student and faculty success. Customer service emphasis, team mentality, and an eagerness to serve in a variety of roles are essential. Must enjoy working in a dynamic, diverse, and collegial environment. The EECS systems administrator will work directly with faculty, students, and research teams to design, deploy, and maintain research computing instrumentation and teaching resources essential to electrical engineering scholarly work.

Examples include (but are not limited to):

· Ensuring ATO, NIST 800.171, and ITAR compliance on restricted research projects.

· Supervision of assigned staff.

· Deploying and managing service-specific systems using a variety of operating systems.

· Deployment and management of teaching lab systems and facilities.

· Deployment of virtual resources for research, teaching and operations.

· Consulting with researchers on the design of technical infrastructures targeting specific research goals.

· End-point image, version, and patch management using common tools.

· Audio/Visual support for classroom, lab, and other facilities.

There is strong emphasis on problem solving and architecting solutions to technological challenges encountered by researchers and students.

The position requires proficiency administering Microsoft Windows environments, common Linux distributions, and virtualization. Experience with networking and security technologies is also required.

This position typically requires a Bachelor’s degree or higher plus eight years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
