What you need to know.
Working on-site at HMP Stocken, we are looking to recruit a full time ESOL/English Tutor that can do more than just Teach Their Trade but can also engage and inspire students that have had little or no prior education. We need someone that believe people are capable of change and deserve a second chance in life. Our Tutors and Trainers work with small groups of prison-based learners to develop their skills and knowledge while supporting them with their long-term goals and aspirations. They ensure that the appropriate training plans are in place and deliver the highest level of quality courses that engage with the learners and help them to reach their potential.
Click HERE to watch a short video to see what other great things you can do while teaching at a prison.
How can you stand out from the crowd?
You will need to demonstrate high ethical standards, take personal accountability for everything you do, and always want to be the best. Ideally you will have experience as a Tutor/Trainer, or substantial vocational experience, including some gained at a supervisory level. You will need to be an expert in your field and hold an appropriate level 2 vocational qualification. You should be empathetic and able to display a wide range of training methods to engage learners from all ages, abilities, and backgrounds, including learners with significant barriers to employment.
Please note there are restrictions in place when working in a Secure Environment. Electronic items such as mobile phones or tablets are not permitted. Some prisons do not allow any money to be taken in. In that case, you exchange money for tokens which you can exchange for tea/coffee/food etc.
