Mental Health Specialist

(0.75 FTE, Day Shift)

The Mental Health Specialist (MHS) works with other team caregivers of inpatient unit staff to provide patient care in a variety of job duties, and under the direct supervision of the RN, or the Mental Health Professional Therapist / Social Worker, or the inpatient unit Manager or Director.

Provides hospital level and focused patient care, support, and milieu management for patients with behavioral health conditions and illness. Under the direction of an RN or other designated clinical staff, observes and reports on patient conditions. Responsible for and/or supports the daily and various therapeutic activities care of the patients. Collaborates with the multi-disciplinary treatment team in the initial developing and modification of treatment care plans both during the admission process, and during the in-patient hospitalization.

Required qualifications:

• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) card must be from the following authorized governing bodies:

• American Heart Association (AHA) – (BLS Provider),

• American Red Cross (ARC) – (BLS for Health Care Provider), – or-

• Military Training Network (MTN) – (BLS Provider) upon hire

• Agency Affiliated Counselor with Washington State Department of Health within ninety (90) days on hire

• Two (2) years in an acute or residential inpatient psychiatric facility in a similar role

• Applicable internship or practicum experience may be applied towards required years of experience

Preferred qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Social Science fields (Social Work, Sociology, Psychology or other related field)
