The Truck Mechanic Apprentice is responsible for assisting the Journeyperson Truck Mechanic perform maintenance on heavy duty truck equipment in company shop. Duties include interpreting work orders, diagnosing defects, and repairing malfunctions. This position requires attention to detail, orientation toward quality, and effective time management.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Assist Journeyperson Truck Mechanic in daily duties and tasks
• Perform scheduled maintenance service
• Check all heavy equipment for proper performance and inspect equipment to detect faults and malfunctions
• Assist in diagnosing defects in equipment
• Adjust, repair, or replace parts and components for heavy duty truck equipment
• Inspect, repair and adjust gasoline and diesel powered units
• Perform engine drive line repairs
• Maintain detailed and accurate maintenance reports and documentation
• Ensure equipment meets safety requirements
• Other duties may be assigned as necessary

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Working knowledge of all tools of the trade
• Must have own tools and PPE
• Ability to perform a variety of physical activities, such as bending, crouching, reaching
• Ability to understand a use technical manuals and manufacture specification schematics
• Moderate ability to use computerized equipment
• Ability to receive direction concerning work duties and responsibilities
• High School or GED required
• Apprenticing to obtain Journey Person Certificate in Heavy Duty Equipment Mechanics, or Truck and Transport

Mechanics preferred

• Individuals who are interested in indenturing in the trade may be considered
