The employee is responsible for:

• providing support for a variety of airborne law enforcement operational activities, such as, but not limited to; flying aircraft for reconnaissance/ surveillance, integrated cross-border law enforcement operations, tracking criminals, rescuing and evacuating injured persons;

• assisting with prisoner and deportation escorts, detention of prisoners before or after flights, and transportation of operational members, exhibits and other hazardous materials in accordance with the Transport Canada issued Equivalency Certificate; and

• provide relief duties at other air bases and participate in major events.

Licenses/Certifications for a Fixed Wing Pilot:

• Fixed wing pilots must possess: A valid Canadian Airline Transport Pilot’s License (ATPL) or a Commercial Pilot’s License (CPL), with a group 1 or 3 Instrument Flight Rating.
• An unrestricted Category I Transport Canada medical validation certificate.

Licenses/Certifications for a Rotary Wing Pilot:

• Rotary wing pilots must possess: A valid Canadian ATPL or CPL.
• An unrestricted Category I Transport Canada medical validation certificate.

EXPERIENCE:

Experience (applies to fixed wing and rotary wing pilots):

• Must have a minimum of 3000 hours of Pilot-in-Command flight time.

Note: Only selected candidates must provide a photocopy of the last three pages of their pilot’s logbook.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Special Requirements (applies to fixed wing and rotary wing pilots):

• The candidate must write on his/her application that he/she Is willing and able to:

a) relocate anywhere in Canada,
b) spend long hours in travel status (relief duties, training, overnights for regular flights etc), and
c) as Pilot in Command, accept all responsibility for decisions respecting the safety of aircraft and passengers in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.

RCMP medical requirement:
This factor is not used at the pre-selection stage. In addition to an unrestricted Category I Transport Canada medical validation certificate, the candidate must meet the minimal health standards as assessed by RCMP Health Services. This includes a full medical assessment, laboratory test(s), psychological examinations, vision, colour vision and hearing standards (color perception and visual and hearing acuity standards).

Visual acuity:
You must meet the minimum vision standards as assessed by a registered/certified Ophthalmologist/Optometrist.

• Corrected vision (with glasses or contacts): Visual acuity must be at least 6/6 (20/20) in one eye and 6/9 (20/30) in the other; and,
• Uncorrected vision (without glasses or contacts lenses): Visual acuity must be at least 6/18 (20/60) in each eye OR 6/12 (20/40) in one eye and at least 6/30 (20/100) in the other eye.

Minimum hearing standards:
The hearing examination must be completed by a practitioner in accordance with the Canadian Standards Association Standard on Pure Tone Air Conduction Audiometers for Hearing Conservation and for Screening. You cannot use a hearing aid during the examination. The minimum requirements are outlined below in more detail.

• Hearing loss no greater than 30 dB in the better ear in the 500 to 3000 Hz range; and
• Hearing loss no greater than 30 dB in the worst ear in the range of 500-2900 Hz and no more than 50 dB in the worst ear at 3,000 Hz.

These factors will be used when the candidate is successful in the recruiting process. Aspiring pilots will be required to successfully complete the standard training, as listed below, in order to meet the position requirements:

• Must successfully complete the Air Services Special Constable Member Training.
• Must successfully complete the line indoctrination as indicated in the Air Services Fixed Wing Operations Manual (FWOM) or the Rotary Wing Operations Manual (RWOM).
• Must successfully complete the Air Services Safety Management Training.
• Must successfully complete any additional required and/or recurrent training and qualifications as indicated in the Air Services FWOM/ RWOM, the Canadian Aviation Regulations and RCMP policy.
