RTÉ currently has a vacancy for the position of Assistant Camera Operator (EFP), reporting to the Manager of EFP. The Assistant Camera Operator is responsible for the support of the principal Camera Operator and supporting camera crew.
Key responsibilities include:
Supporting the principal Camera Operator and Operators of any additional cameras. This involves the preparation, checking and packing of all camera equipment prior to a shoot, and its deployment on location
Supporting the Camera Operator in the setting up and preparation of the camera and all equipment on shoots
The Assistant Camera Operator is also responsible for all consumables such as batteries together with maintenance and upkeep of all equipment between shoots.
For smaller shoots, for which there is no dedicated Data Wrangler, the role will also involve responsibility for the transfer of all data from media cards to either the shoot laptop or drives.
Despite the role principally being one of support, the Assistant Camera Operator must also be able to operate all cameras in use on the shoot, and have a full knowledge of lights and equipment (tracks, dolly etc.).
The role also involves coordination of the handover of media cards to the Data Wrangler (on bigger projects or series), or Broadcast Co-ordinator (Production Assistant).
The successful candidate will be:
Familiar with all aspects of camera equipment operation, set-up, and maintenance
Aware of and understand the process by which a Camera Operator realises the shooting script in terms of shots and planned sequences
A team worker, be capable of taking direction and have great attention to planning, checklists, and detail
Adept at troubleshooting when technology or equipment plays up on location and have a general aptitude for technology
Extremely time-conscious and punctual
Comfortable setting up and arranging camera support systems, monitors, and lighting equipment
Aware of LiveU streaming operation
Capable of working long days and as this role is location-based, sometimes in challenging locations, including abroad, and when necessary, being on the road for several days at a time
Aware of RTÉ’s data wrangling procedures
Aware of camera rental companies and the hiring process for ancillary equipment
Knowledgeable in all aspects of health and safety regulations and safe practices relating to filming
This appointment will be made on an ongoing full-time contract basis on the Camera Operator TV salary scale from €36,683 to €53,014 gross per annum.
