About the Position:

The Women’s and Seniors Health & Wellness Coordinator delivers culturally safe, anti-oppressive, trauma-informed, cross-cultural health brokerage to eligible newcomer women and seniors who face multiple barriers and lack of access to health and wellness navigation support. This position provides health & wellness information, resources and referrals that support newcomer women and senior inclusion such as bridging gaps in knowledge, expectations, and understanding between newcomers and health care providers.

Reports to: Regional Manager

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

• Coordinates virtual and/or in-person health and wellness advocacy and cultural health brokerage
• Collaborates with healthcare providers and/or relevant agencies to ensure medical language interpretation support is accessed by service providers for client appointments
• Facilitates virtual and/or in-person health and wellness drop-in support groups
• Provides one-to-one service to clients with information and health care system navigation support as needed
• Assists clients to engage with local communities and feel included in decisions relating to their health
• Develops and shares resources on topics such as: healthy relationships, stress management, nutrition, senior safety tips & tools
• Other related duties as assigned by the Regional Manager

Qualifications & Experience:

• Bachelor of Social Sciences, Public Health, Social Work, or other related fields
• Certification in First Aid, Mental Health First Aid, Applied Suicide Intervention Skills training, Nonviolent Crisis Intervention and/or Gender-Based Violence are considered an asset
• Certification and/or knowledge in Anti-Oppressive, Trauma-Informed, Inclusive Practices are considered an asset
• Experience working with immigrants, live-in-caregivers and/or refugees
• Experience with multicultural clientele and immigrant-related services
• Understanding of multiple traditional cultural beliefs, values and practices connected to health and wellness and how they might be impacted by immigration, settlement in the Canadian context
• Experience facilitating support groups, online webinars and workshops
• Experience delivering one-to-one support services
• Experience liaising with healthcare professionals
• Knowledge of settlement information and resources
• Knowledge of local health and social services
• Knowledge of gender-based violence indicators and tools for support

Job Skills & Abilities:

• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Additional languages considered an asset
• Excellent interpersonal and intercultural communication skills
• Excellent technical skills in MS office and web-based applications (e.g. MS Teams and Zoom)
• Ability to work independently and in a cooperative team environment
• Ability to support women and seniors facing oppression, violence and/or cultural adjustment challenges and intersecting barriers
• Ability to design, promote, deliver and facilitate support groups and education workshops
• Ability to collaborate with local health and social services agencies
• Second language in Mandarin/Cantonese an asset
