The Team

The Global Finance & Risk Technology Group plays a critical role in developing technical platforms and maintaining enterprise financial regulatory reporting applications to support Retail Credit Risk, Insurance, Business Banking Credit Risk and Capital Management. Its mission is to bring enterprise data from different data sources to perform risk analytics using varies technologies and to produce extracts in support corporate decision and financial reporting functions within Scotiabank.

The Role

The Data Analyst will play an active role on the team by collaboratively assessing, analyzing and documenting risk data elements required for regulatory reporting initiatives. You will take part in strategic and comprehensive data solutions on Retail Credit and Insurance data portfolios to integrate and build Production ready applications. You will ensure sound IT controls, data completeness and checks are maintained and enhanced within the application(s) to comply with industry audit standards. You will be given the opportunity to exercise and build upon your expertise in Big Data applications while evolving project deliverables using agile project management methodologies. In addition, building upon key IT to Business relationships to progressively modernize strategic Enterprise roadmaps.

Some of the Key Accountabilities include:

• Conducting data discovery, data requirements and gap analysis using technical tools and skillsets.
• Capturing and documenting source to target mapping in support of data source procurement and development activities.
• Participate in the business system data integrations, solution, design, plan, coordination and management of various data asset initiatives with varying scope and complexity.
• Provide support to data operation teams, resolving data quality and data production issues
• Lead and take ownership on multiple data integration projects. Manage relationships with upstream and downstream data / technology partners.
• Work with upstream source providers and downstream consumers for change request and release management.
• Be curious, constantly learning about new trends in IT enterprise technologies especially in the area of CI/CD and DevOps and share the knowledge with end users and team members
• Work effectively in a remote team environment maintaining:
  • Collaboration with other team members, internal customers, external vendors, and other Scotiabank teams.
  • Acquiring knowledge from peers and have a knack for continuous self-learning.
  • Coaching other team/department members with the areas of your expertise
  • Actively participate in team’s huddles

What You Will Bring to Succeed

• Breadth of IT Business System Analyst, and Financial Risk data management and insurance/accounting data management experience (data management, business system integrations, data operations, and risk management), over 5+ years.
• You are comfortable data profiling and manipulating datasets with advance SQL/Hive SQL functions as well as tools and techniques, Big Data, HDFS/Hadoop, python, bash shell, universal database querying tools.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills (written/visual/verbal)
• Proven relationship management skills
• Certified Business Analysis Professional (CBAP), Certified Analytics Profession (CAP), Certified Data Management Professional an asset
• Spanish language an asset
