SoCalGas Hiring for Gas Appliance Technician – Palm Desert at Los Angeles, CA Full Time

Job Overview:
SoCal Gas is looking for mechanically inclined and tool-oriented individuals who have an aptitude for diagnostic and repair work. With pay starting at $37.89/hr. we are offering a pass-through apprenticeship that will train you to become a safe and efficient Gas Appliance Technician; skills that will prepare you for a career with SoCal Gas. Current/Future positions are in Palm Desert. This is a DOT position.

Position Objective:
Successful candidates will be responsible for following established safety procedures and Company guidelines to diagnose and resolve customer requests for service with emphasis on safety, customer communication, and satisfaction.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide appliance operating instructions, specific appliance and order routines, venting, carbon monoxide testing, gas leak detection in piping systems and appliances, gas bill analysis, response to emergency incidents, appliance repair and parts replacement, working on gas delivery pressure regulators and advanced meter delivery systems including diagnostic and repairs.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Successful candidates must possess a valid California driver’s license and a safe driving record.
• Must possess a minimum of one (1) year of experience on either gas-fired appliance diagnostics/repairs and/or related HVAC control systems, OR a minimum of one (1) year of trade (Plumbing, electrical, heating)/technical college coursework in maintenance or utility programs, or a certificate in HVAC, Plumbing or Electrical.
• Must be able to climb and carry a ladder without assistance.
• Must be able to lift objects weighing 50 pounds without assistance.
• Must be able to crawl underneath homes or in attics.
• Selected candidates must pass a pre-qualification examination, physical abilities test, pass a structured panel interview and formalized training, pre-employment drug screen. Incumbents will participate in the D.O.T random drug testing program.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience using various electronic tools, including gas testing equipment and a hand-held computer device to document service activities. Testing equipment, vehicles. Candidates must possess a valid California driver’s license and a safe driving record, basic computer skills, strong mechanical skills, ability to follow instructions and customer contact skills.

Tools and training are furnished by the Company.
