Mō te tūranga | About the role

We are seeking a new or recent graduate to come and join the Southland Hospital Dental Service.

You will assist in the provision of oral health care within a multidisciplinary team at Southland Hospital, and community based services within Southland and Otago. The position will have an emphasis on the provision of emergency and routine care for adult, adolescent and paediatric patients who may be medically compromised, have special needs, or are on a very low income.

Dental House Officers will undertake a varied patient workload, and support the on-site Oral Surgeon and the visiting Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery team. There will be a requirement to travel to community based clinics to treat adolescents and children.

You will be responsible for:

• Providing clear communication with patients and their whanau
• Providing quality dental treatment, both independently and at the direction of senior clinicians and consultants
• Liaising with other staff, departments and GP’s in the management of patients as required
• Ordering and following-up necessary investigations
• Making good use of your time and managing acute patients appropriately
• Participating in ward rounds as required
• Participating in departmental teaching sessions and clinical audits
