Description

Purpose of Position:

The Assistant Saltwater Buyer will ensure that the organization has the proper saltwater gear, tackle, and overall product lines to ensure our coastal retail stores and online assortment provides exceptional service and selection. The role will work hand in hand with the Corporate merchandising team, while also having hands on with inventory selection and constant communication with the manufacturers as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Determine and manage assortment selection to ensure achievement of sales, inventory turn, and margin goals

• Analyze and hindsight category performance to develop category strategy and identify future business opportunities

• Maintain an understanding of national markets and product trends impacting current performance and potential future sales

• Maintain close working relationships with the Demand Planners to ensure forecast accuracy and systems maintenance in an environment of constantly changing products.

• Collaborate with cross-functional departments on assortment promotions, product launches, and vendor displays

• Negotiate and administer of purchasing contracts, vendor programs, and Merchandising Development Funds.

• Identify and resolves potential purchasing problems; follow up to ensure timely and accurate product delivery

• Build and maintain a working relationship with vendor partners and co-workers

• Minimize stock outs, manage risk of excess inventory and expediting costs, and communicate with store level personnel on regional needs

• All other duties as assigned

  Requirements

Qualifications:

• Strong analytical skills and understanding of retail math

• Must possess ability to prioritize competing tasks

• Must have working knowledge of Microsoft Office.

• Must possess excellent verbal and written communication.

• Must be self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision.

Education/Experience:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration or related field preferred

• A minimum of 3 years of experience in retail management, purchasing, or similar discipline required

• Extensive experience and knowledge of the Saltwater Angling business

Travel Requirements:

This position may require some travel.
