Life Science Technician 2
The Dixon lab (http://www.dixonlaboratory.com) has a position for a motivated Life Science Technician 2 level with interests in cancer, cell biology, or chemical biology. Our lab focuses on identifying and characterizing new cell death pathways (e.g. ferroptosis) that can potentially be activated to treat cancer. A major goal of the lab is to understand how new small molecules we have discovered in the lab can induce ferroptosis in cancer cells and seeking to understand whether this involves known or novel molecular mechanisms. Research in the lab is driven by in vitro approaches with a particular focus on the effects of different small molecules on cancer cell death. This position will provide opportunities to learn a range of cell biology and chemical biology techniques, and offers a unique opportunity to collaborate with other scientists interested in genomics, biochemistry and computational biology.
The main responsibilities of the successful candidate will be culturing cancer cells of different genotypes and examining the effects of lethal compound treatment. In addition, follow-up studies examining the effects of deleting specific genes using CRISPR/Cas9 technology on drug-induced cell death will be pursued. Other responsibilities will include performing routine laboratory techniques such as DNA cloning, as well as maintaining excellent records of lab work, curating samples, and assisting in data analysis. This is a two-year fixed-term appointment with the possibility to renew.
