Overview
The VCIC Auditor position involves auditing and program training of agencies that access or receive confidential state and federal criminal justice information through the Vermont Crime Information Center (VCIC). This may include fingerprint supported criminal history records, security awareness requirements, and physical or digital security requirements.
Class Definition
Professional level work for the Department of Public Safety involving both auditing and certification training of any agency that accesses or utilizes confidential state and federal criminal justice databases through the Vermont Crime Information Center (VCIC). Information systems overseen encompass various programs under the auspices of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) division. Specific examples may include but are not limited to; the National Incident Based Reporting System (NIBRS), National Crime Information Center (NCIC), the National Information Services (NIS), and the Vermont Computerized Criminal History database (CCH). Auditors will have primary responsibility for one or more specific program(s). Auditors must be adept at interpreting and applying all applicable State, Federal and local regulations that govern program management. Audit and training programs ensure that participating partner agencies are compliant with all applicable policies and program requirements, as well as provide documented feedback on agency compliance as it relates to security, training and data quality. Auditors must be capable of developing curriculum to train and in some cases, certify authorized users in order to ensure accurate collection of restricted data as well as those who assist with ensuring compliance at partner agencies. The target audience members may include, but not be limited to; initial training and/or recertification training for those authorized users of criminal justice agencies, law enforcement officers, communication personnel or educational institution staff who are granted access to restricted and confidential data.Work is performed under the supervision of the Deputy Director of the Vermont Crime Information Center.
