Office Administrator/State Tester
Swerve Driving School offers drivers’ education to teens, adult driving lessons, and we provide knowledge and drive testing on behalf of the Dept. of Licensing. Our ideal candidate has had a driver’s license for a minimum of 5 years and a reasonably clean driving record and is willing to go through paid training to help proctor knowledge tests and administer drive tests for the Dept. of Licensing. This is a 100-hour training program that also requires that a written and driving test be passed at DOL, even though you won’t be required to give lessons to customers. The Dept of Licensing requires that a background check be done on all staff.
It is very important that we have outgoing, friendly, kind and considerate staff. We have a lot of nervous teen parents and many customers from all over the world coming in to learn our local driving laws and pass their tests to get licensed. We hear and see many different languages, accents, customs and beliefs, and we believe that all people need to be treated with respect and kindness. Patience is a must.
The daily tasks include greeting customers, answering phones and emails, and answering a lot of questions about our local driving laws and licensing procedures. You will schedule appointments on our driving software, take payments, and check people in and out. You will enter test scores into the DOL computer system and keep attendance records for teens. Attention to detail is very important. We expect the lobby, classroom and bathrooms to be kept clean and tidy. We strive for a relaxed atmosphere without a lot of micro-managing, but we expect staff to be proactive and get their work done.
Base starting pay is $20 per hour, with an increase once you have passed the written and driving tests and are able to help with knowledge and drive testing. Additional pay will be considered for special skills, such as the ability to speak additional languages. We offer sick time/paid time off as well as 401k.
