Client is seeking to contract with, via agency vendor, highly motivated and forward-thinking professionals who are interested in focusing on advanced nuclear reactor research and development and influencing change within the nuclear power landscape and bringing forward the critical production of medical isotopes.
The Strategic Support Team Engineer is a part of a suite of positions allocated to resolving high value emergent technical problems, or developing strategies to address, integrated design of plant systems, structures, and integrated analysis of the facility issues/topics. Specifically for the scope of this team, this includes responsibility to evaluate, create, review, manage, and drive to resolution a series of emergent technical topics (known as “triage” items). A set of indicative triage items are delineated below. Additionally, members of this strategic support team will also be responsible for driving critical technical topics through projects formal decision process. A set of indicative project decision are delineated below as well. To resolve triage items and project decisions, the team will coordinate with Natrium engineers working on plant level functions, systems, components, and/or engineering analyses to establish a comprehensive understanding of each topic, as well as reach back into their own organizations for subject matter expert (SME) evaluations and reviews.
Example triage items:
Development of Fuel Handling Building safety classification and missile protection strategy
Review of project virtual design and construction plan, and assessment of functionality of integrated plant design 3D physical model, and development of schedule and interface for an integrated model.
Develop project wide strategy for application of Licensing Modernization Project (LMP) NEI 18-04 approach for conceptual design of SSCs.
Development of project wide margin management standard
Assessment of safety classification and optimal location of reactor protection system components
Example project decisions:
Control room and remote shut down panel safety classification, requirements, and location
Reactor protection system classification and location
Radwaste system ideal location and RCA boundary
Reactor seismic trip strategy
Responsibilities
Evaluate technical background information on the Natrium Confluence environment, including previous technical evaluations, analyses, reports etc. on a given triage or decision topic
Consult and interface with Natrium SMEs on the topic, and associated/impacted areas, and obtain their recommendations. This includes assigning and tracking actions as required to obtain the necessary SME input both from Natrium, and inside the team’s own organization.
Apply a broad knowledge of nuclear facility and industrial processing knowledge in interfacing with design disciplines (such as mechanical, controls, civil, and nuclear) to drive triage items and project decisions to closure
Develop project decision pages, provide supporting information and present to the project design board in order to reach a decision.
Develop engineering reports, trade studies, and perform analyses as required to support resolution of triage and decision items.
Develop recommendations and implement updates to project decision and triage processes, plans, and tools to improve project performance.
Attend weekly triage and decision related meetings.
