What we want

The Avian Program Aide contributes to avian health research program related to avian exposure to pesticides, bird-tick interactions, and more. Major responsibilities include: mist-netting and banding birds; representing TAMU to the Nature Conservancy partners; blood sampling of birds; data collection; and data entry. Required Education and Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in wildlife, biology, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience

• Five years of experience working with wild birds in the field, which includes two years of experience at a banding station.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.

Other Requirements or Other Factors:

• Travel to Gulf Coast and other field sites.

Responsibilities:

• Extraction and Processing – Sets up and takes down mist-nets for safe avian capture. Extracts and processes wild birds.

• Data Collection – Performs bird banding, measurements, and blood collection. Enters data into field notebook, excel spreadsheets, and band manager program. Reports data to graduate student and PI.

• Partnerships – Represents TAMU to the Nature Conservancy partners. Performs other duties as assigned.
