The Role

Your role will see you working within one of the most successful retail organisations in the country, building an understanding of the business of retail and turning this understanding into solutions that support our customers, staff, and partners throughout the product lifecycle of offering, selling, and fulfilling. Your primary focus will be understanding, analysing, designing and developing The Good Guys website in Websphere Commerce. However, you will be truly cross-functional, and you will be willing and able to contribute to any part of the delivery pipeline. Your sense of curiosity will ensure you appreciate the how and why, not just the who, what, and when. You will take pride in your craft and actively seek continual improvement of self, team, and organisation.

Whilst experience is valuable, your attitude and aptitude are more important to us as an organisation.

You will be self-motivated, have good written and verbal communication skills and enjoy contributing to the success of an agile team.

Responsibilities:

• Take ownership of work and responsibility for getting it done
• Develop a strong working understanding of The Good Guys business
• Work collaboratively within the team from inception to production, and inspire collaboration across teams and the wider business
• Implement design principles to ensure that all Application works well across multiple devices and environment including cloud.
• Contribute to design of new framework for creating user apps that grows with the needs of the company
• Can independently modify and develop applications and features that we will expose to business via desktop, mobile and cloud.
• Code, build and debug maintainable applications
• Can identify risks and issues when making changes
• Maintain our code repository through our source code management
• Assist in code review of applications/system according to company guidelines
• Mentor and guide junior developers
• Maintain and create continuous development and continuous integration for our on-prem and cloud applications
• Create the design taking account of the priority of the work and the trade-offs between quality and delivery for the context – making sure the “just enough” standard is being applied
• Ensure shared understanding of the work being undertaken
• Help prepare a stable pipeline of work for the team
• Work across teams to ensure a coherent approach
• Identify risks and issues as necessary and ensure they are raised
• Identify improvement opportunities

Requirements:

• Experience in Websphere commerce version 8 or 9.
• Hands-on experience in design and development of Java/J2EE based web application including JSP, web services and Javascript.
• Experience in integration of WCS with External systems using REST
• Strong Design and implementation experience in Websphere commerce application architecture.
