Department Summary:
MITRE is dedicated to solving problems that provide safety, security, and economic prosperity for all individuals and American businesses. We apply systems thinking across government, industry, and academia to solve whole of nation challenges. We operate Federally Funded Research and Development Centers (FFRDCs), helping transform government processes and systems to improve mission execution and outcomes. As an operator of the Center for Enterprise Modernization (CEM) FFRDC, we serve as trusted advisors and technical experts to accelerate technology modernization efforts, address pressing national issues and support U.S. citizen needs. In the Treasury, Economic and Commerce division, Commerce department, we apply these principles to help our sponsors solve problems at the intersection if national and economic security.
Roles and Responsibilities:
MITRE is seeking a specialized economic and science expert possessing the following expertise in International Trade and Economics, and Supply Chain capabilities to support a portfolio of customers and sponsors within the Treasury, Economics, and Commerce Division.
This position will support:
Economic growth through mapping, analyzing, and identifying vulnerabilities in supply chains that support national interests,
The use of data analytics to identify and mitigate unfair trade practices that inform strategy and policies to support U.S. competitiveness domestically and abroad.
This position will:
Work with or lead a multidisciplinary team to provide technical expertise with senior level government officials on the critical challenges and solutions influencing the operations and growth of the US economy.
Use data to map, analyze and provide recommendations on supply chains as it relates to commerce, cross-border trade, and economic empowerment.
Advise on trade and economic policy trends for the U.S. Commerce Department and relevant stakeholders, including matters relating to digital trade, e-commerce, market access, supply chains, standards, and cross-border data flows.
Identify, monitor, and analyze trade and economic policy issues affecting the U.S. supply chain at the international, regional, and domestic levels
Advise government teams on trade and economic policy matters to support the development of U.S. products and policy positions
Assist in developing and deepening of relationships across MITRE and with government, academic experts and other stakeholders in the trade and economic policy space
Minimum Qualifications:
Typically requires a minimum of 10 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 8 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 5 years’ experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.
Applicants selected for this position will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or applicants who are eligible for security clearances.
Experience being detail-oriented, creative, resourceful, analytical, and knowledgeable about emerging trade and economic policy issues, and have experience presenting to cross-functional partners
A cross-functional team player with the experience to drive and manage multiple priorities
Ability to communicate and synthesize complex requirements that enable and inform policy, organizational and technical decision making
Ability to identify, form and support both domestic and international partnerships
Experience in performing independent assessments to inform strategic decision making
Ability to manage and lead tasks to meet expected customer and sponsor outcomes
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree preferred with at least 8+ years of related experience or PhD/PhD candidates with 5 years’ experience, or equivalent combination of related education, such as Macroeconomics, Monetary Economics, International Trade, or Financial Economics.
At least 8+ years of experience in understanding the US and international trade ecosystem and its relationship to US competitiveness, multi-lateral relationships, and international standards
At least 8+ years of experience and knowledge in understanding the issues related to critical infrastructure and the industries that are within the domestic and international supply chains.
Experience working on trade and economic policy matters and the related technology business and policy ecosystem (e.g., e-commerce/consumer protection, services, standards, supply chains, and financial services)
