This is an exciting opportunity to be part of our growing Embedded team within 4DMedical, focused on our ‘close-to-hardware’ software systems, integrating proven technologies to build new and innovative X-ray imaging systems. The objective is to deliver innovative X-ray imaging scanners to improve lung health diagnostics for adults and children.

What can you expect as a Software engineer at 4DMedical?

This is a cross-functional role at the intersection of high-performance image acquisition and hardware control. You will be part of a team that will design, scope and build new software in a challenging safety-critical space, as well as leveraging our extensive experience and codebase in hardware control and high bandwidth imaging. You will be instrumental in shaping the design and development of Distributed Software Systems for Hardware Control and Image Acquisition. You will frequently liaise with the Mechanical and Electrical hardware teams to understand requirements and system design.

You’ll be part of a team of Software Engineers using an Agile delivery methodology, building quality, testing and safety in across the lifecycle. You’ll be passionate about innovation and working to develop software that interacts both with hardware and other software as part of a distributed system. You will develop Linux-based service-oriented control applications in C++ and Python, using frameworks such as Boost, ZeroMQ and be responsible for the core services that manage the hardware and work alongside the ClinicalUX (user interface) team to deliver a complete application for clinical use. As a Medical Device company, we place a strong emphasis on peer review, automated testing and hardware-in-the-loop testing, and the successful candidate will enjoy the challenge of producing reliable, quality software.

You’ll mainly be based at our global head office, but travel to our Port Melbourne manufacturing facility for meetings and testing will be required from time to time.

Qualifications & Industry experience requirements:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science
• 5+ years of experience in software development, preferably in the Embedded or Hardware Control space.

Any experience of the following would also be nice to have but not essential as plenty of training and mentorship is provided within a collaborative team:

• Certifications on Agile, C++.
• Experience with Medical Device development.
• Development experience with CAN, Ethernet and image or data acquisition hardware.
