Our International Office is responsible for leading the University’s internationalisation activities, including international student recruitment, profile and reputation-building activities, international partnership development, transnational education and global mobility programmes.
The opportunity | Te Whiwhinga mahi
As our Associate Director Business Development, you will be responsible for creating an enabling environment across the whole International Office portfolio to support marketing, student recruitment and partnership teams’ effectiveness.
Leading a team of analysts and managers, you will partner with the International Director, Deputy Director International Marketing and Recruitment and Deputy Director International Partnerships to identify opportunities for organisational development, system improvements and data insights to drive positive change.
You will track policy developments and the external environment in international higher education, recommend new products and services, write proposals and implement measures to help build high-performing, values-led teams.
Driven by the University’s Taumata Teitei Vision, you will enable our people to embed a working culture driven by our principles of Manaakitanga, Whanaungatanga and Kaitiakitanga.

About the team | Mō tō mātou rōpū
The International Office contributes to how the University articulates, executes and maintains its international ambitions and aims to significantly impact the global higher education landscape to further the University’s interests in teaching, research and outreach for the benefit of all our communities.
You will directly manage a small team of specialised consultants with a variety of skills, including business development, external agent engagement, analytics, and project management. You will partner with our Deputy Directors and report to the International Director.
In the course of your duties, you will travel offshore and domestically and, on occasion, attend evening and weekend events.
About you | He kōrero mōu
We are seeking a people manager who can demonstrate their experience of leading a service delivery team. We are also looking for evidence of previous successes in implementing new working processes whilst establishing a consistent working culture that aligns with broader organisational values.
At its heart, this role is a business development and relationship management role in the world of international education and student recruitment, so we are seeking comparable experience in these areas.
You will be responsible for collecting data and advising future strategy, so we are seeking someone with knowledge of the policy environment impacting international education. Your team will be involved in horizon scanning and trend identification, so you will need to be able to synthesise complex data and communicate with influence on strategic programme development opportunities.
