The opportunity | Te Whiwhinga mahi

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Campus Life team and provide essential operational leadership for Early Childhood Education at the University. The role of the Operations Manager is to provide day to day guidance and support to the University’s ECE centres, the centre leaders and staff. This is a fixed term role for 12 months, to provide essential operations management support whilst the General Manager undertakes some key projects.

Some key responsibilities for the Operations Manager include:

• Leadership, management and support of the ECE centre leaders
• Ensuring day to day operations at all ECE centres are maintained in compliance with University polices and regulatory requirements
• Maintenance and/or development of appropriate processes and procedures, including liaison with other University teams, to enable the efficient operation of the ECE centres
• Engagement with the Ministry of Education to understand and implement, respond or contribute to, legislative / regulatory developments
• Effective financial management of income and expenditure across the ECE centres, including budgeting and forecasting.

This is a full-time (37.5 hours per week), fixed term (Up to 12 months) opportunity.

The remuneration is $94,900 – $117,200 per annum, dependent on skills and experience.

About the team | Mō tō mātou rōpū

Campus Life operates a range of wellbeing services such as Student Accommodation, Counselling and Health Services and Sport and Recreation, which are aimed at removing personal barriers to academic success. It also operates engagement services such as support for student organisations, social and sporting events, volunteering and leadership support aimed at helping students to develop a sense of belonging, build friendships and engage in co-curricular activities that complement their academic development.

Early Childhood Education, part of Campus Life, provides quality childcare and pre-school education services primarily for the children of University students and staff. As at late 2023, there are 6 ECE centres, with over 200 children enrolled.

About you | He kōrero mōu

With proven leadership and operational management skills in the childcare sector, you will be comfortable with the workings of ECE centres. Your strong communication and inter-personal skills makes you able to inspire and motivate your team and other key stakeholders. You should also be highly commercially savvy and have proven problem solving skills, excellent engagement ability and comfortable managing revenue and expenditure budgets. Some other key requirements include:

• Level 7 Early Childhood or Primary qualification.
• Teaching Certification with the Teaching Council.
• Experience leading and implementing change across teams.
• Experience working in a multicultural context with a focus on bi cultural practices.
• Recent experience leading external audits eg ERO and Licensing.
• Detailed current knowledge of MOE Regulations, Licensing Criteria, NELP and the funding handbook.
• Recruitment and induction that leads to retention and effective teams.
• Understanding of guiding documents and uses these to inform operations and develop current and shared knowledge of their use.
