The project is located in Swansea and is a direct access hostel for 17 single people aged 18 upwards. The service provides residential support with the aim of meeting individuals’ needs, which promote independence and lead to a sustainable move-on. The project is funded through the Supporting People Programme Grant and is required to meet the Welsh Government’s National Outcomes Framework. The Framework’s four main aims are:
To be responsible for the cleaning of the Dinas Fechan supported housing project in Swansea. In addition to the cleaning of the communal areas and staff areas, the post holder will ensure that any cleaning of void rooms is carried out efficiently to keep periods between a resident moving out and another moving in to a minimum and that the accommodation is maintained at an acceptable standard.
On occasion the post holder may need to log maintenance issues on the organisational database and request a repair.
This role is subject to a Basic DBS Disclosure.

1. To undertake cleaning duties within Dinas Fechan, to include outside spaces.
a) To ensure houses/offices in the Dinas Fechan project are cleaned on a regular basis, including periodic deep cleans, on a schedule agreed with the manager and by encouraging and organising residents and service users to keep their property clean and tidy.
b) To ensure the cleanliness of the building’s toilets on a regular basis throughout the day, ensuring that soap, paper towels and toilet rolls are adequately provided.
c) To occasional support the team with any painting or decorating requirements as agreed with the appropriate manager
d) To ensure all building furniture/equipment is maintained to appropriate standards by reporting any necessary repairs.
e) To ensure the correct disposal of recycling, general and confidential waste
f) To assist the team in educating residents and service users about recycling and waste disposal issues relating to the properties.
g) To supervise residents and service user volunteers in undertaking light cleaning duties.
h) To identify and report repairs and maintenance requirements in Dinas Fechan.
i) To manage own workload effectively in order to complete all tasks in line with timescales and schedules agreed with the manager.
j) To ensure a room is up to standard and available for a new resident as soon as possible after it becomes vacant, ensuring that all items on the inventory are checked, replaced if needed, and fit for purpose.
k) To liaise between suppliers and service providers as appropriate.
l) To provide cover for cleaning in other properties as and when required.
m) To report to the appropriate manager any unsatisfactory services provided by external suppliers or contractors.
n) To complete all documentation associated with the role, including risk assessments, and to return them to the manager as required.
2. To ensure standards of Health and Safety and building maintenance are monitored and maintained.
a) To report issues of concern to the manager promptly as they arise.
b) To ensure all aspects of Health and Safety practices associated with the role are observed including manual handling, control of substances hazardous to health (COSHH), provision of use of work equipment (PUWER) and lone working.
c) To comply with all safety policies and procedures relating to performance of tasks, use of products or supplies and incident reporting.
d) To be conscious of the health and safety needs of yourself and others, who may be affected by the work you are carrying out, including erecting signage and notifying individuals of your presence.
e) To be responsible for the removal of sharps and dispose of them in the correct manner using the correct equipment.
f) To use the correct cleaning and maintenance equipment and products for the task, and to use them in a safe manner.
g) To keep records of all the materials which are used and store them correctly to meet COSHH regulations.
h) To regularly carry out any necessary checks and maintenance on cleaning equipment and tools supplied by The Wallich.
3. To assist in the overall running of the project.
a) To work in line with all Wallich policies and procedures.
b) To participate in own supervision.
c) To undertake relevant training
d) To report to manager regularly informing him/her of issues arising during the course of the work that require policy decisions.
e) To ensure adequate administrative records are kept.
f) To take part in all aspects of lone working as directed by the policy.
g) To partake in a team handover where applicable.
h) To undertake other duties within the remit of the post.
4. Other
a) To work and travel across Swansea as required.

Person Profile
1. Knowledge
a) Basic knowledge of what constitutes good cleaning standards including Deep Clean, or willingness to learn.
b) Basic knowledge of COSHH regulations, and/or willingness to learn.
c) Knowledge of dealing with hazardous items e.g. sharps and/or willingness to learn.
d) Knowledge and understanding of professional boundaries when working with vulnerable people.
e) Basic knowledge of how your personal life can affect your own performance and attendance.
2. Experience
a) Experience of cleaning buildings/properties.
b) Experience of engaging with diverse people in a non-judgemental way.
c) Experience of prioritising workloads to meet deadlines.
d) Experience of recording your work in paper or digital systems is desirable.
3. Other
a) Confident and able to lone work on own initiative.
b) Able to use relevant equipment for cleaning
c) Able to identify minor repair or health and safety issues
d) Flexible and able to meet the changing needs of the organisation
