General Accountability
Provides supervisory assistance by monitoring and managing the work performed by employees in the section. Assists in the co-ordination (e.g., planning work schedules, familiarizing employees with their work and safety procedures) of work in the section.
Key Job Functions
Observes the Subway train operations (mainline, wye, and yards), while manually operating the Alstom Centralized Signaling System (CSS) panel in order to ensure that scheduled subway service is met
Assists the Foreperson and/or Supervisor in responding to emergency situations by monitoring the occurrence and adjusting service levels in an effort to mitigate service disruptions and maintain established service levels and standards
Assists the Foreperson with overseeing and supervising hourly-rated employees, performing yard operation and dispatching duties to ensure productivity and meet scheduled subway service
Ensures that rules and regulations in the union agreement, TTC and department policies and government legislation (human rights, labour relations, Occupational Health & Safety Act, etc.) are satisfied and applied fairly and consistently; and that employees are properly trained in all aspects of the work and in the operation of any equipment specific to the work
Ensures the preparation of the service log reports containing all pertinent information as required
Substitutes for another Foreperson within the section, as required

Education and Experience
Completion of a post-secondary college diploma or university degree in a related discipline or a combination of education, training and experience deemed to be equivalent.
Additional Requirements
Thorough knowledge of transit operations including; subway yard operations, ATC system operation and interface, emergency operating rules, procedures and regulations, power cut procedures, the signalling system, automatic train protection system, track crossovers and service adjustments in order to initiate the appropriate delay recovery action
Must be familiar with subway vehicles, subway tower and local control zone rooms and subway rail grids, and C.I.S. and ATC operations
Sound judgment, organizational and problem solving skills necessary to coordinate and delegate multiple tasks simultaneously to a group of employees, and to perform within a “control centre” environment
Well-developed interpersonal, leadership and team building skills with the ability to work as part of a team environment, plus the ability to supervise a unionized workforce
Effective verbal communications skills required in order to concisely convey vital information
Strong computer skills and the ability to simultaneously work with various computer programs and applications related to the work
A valid Province of Ontario Class “G” Driver’s License
Must be able to attain and maintain Subway Yard Operator (SYO) qualification
Will be required to complete various courses in effective supervision in addition to technical and refresher courses related to areas of responsibility
Must have or acquire knowledge of TTC, Rail Cars & Shops and Subway Transportation department policies and procedures applicable to the work performed including a sound knowledge of the Collective Agreement, Highway Traffic Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act
