Metro Vancouver Transit Police (“Transit Police”) is the leader in regional public transit policing, operating across 22 communities. It provides policing services to all modes of transit: Bus, SeaBus, SkyTrain and West Coast Express. In partnership with cross-regional police partners, Transit Police prevents crime and provides coordinated police services to transit users throughout the region. It also seeks to have a workforce that is responsive to and reflective of the many diverse communities it serves.
Performs a variety of telecommunications duties within the SCBCTA Police Service Operations Communication Centre to assist sections of Transit Police and members of the general public in dealing with incidents of a criminal nature. Responds to calls for service and public inquiries, and evaluates, prioritizes and dispatches calls. Takes reports and provides time-sensitive information to police. Maintains police databases such as CPIC, including data entry and modification, information removal and retrieval, and drafting of messages and sending them to appropriate agencies. Operates police radio and telephone systems, Translink subsidiary radio and telephone systems, and other police related databases. Monitors the deployment and maintains the status of the field units in assigned patrol zones.
Grade 12 graduation, plus successful completion of Justice Institute of BC or related courses in the methods and procedures used in the operation of radio systems, 10 code system, closed circuit television systems, and computer systems, as well as specific training in C.P.I.C operations and procedures. Requires up to two years of previous experience in a police like dispatching environment to gain knowledge of the Criminal Code of Canada, the Motor Vehicle Act, Transit Conduct and Safety Regulations, and other applicable provincial statutes. A further period of up to six (6) months in the position is required to gain knowledge of TransLink and its subsidiaries’ operations, security roles and responsibilities, communication and security equipment, and to memorize technical language, systems, codes and procedures. Must qualify for criminal records security clearance (fingerprinted) for C.P.I.C. access.

Once in the process, testing will be used to confirm this suitability and all internal applicants will be required to obtain a pass mark of 70% on each component of the testing to demonstrate a minimum level of proficiency in the position.
