Job Description Summary
Travelers Infrastructure and Cloud Services is hiring a Cloud Monitoring Engineer who will design, plan, implement, and maintain complex monitoring and observability solutions through both third party and in house developed tools. The incumbent will support projects in the public cloud, hybrid cloud, and container technologies, with a focus on the foundational support through monitoring and observability. The main focus of this job will be for monitoring and observability in the public cloud.
Under general supervision, demonstrates a thorough understanding of the activities performed related to engineering support, installation and/or operations of infrastructure technologies. Plans at an operational level designing and developing technology solutions interfacing with appropriate customers, management and technical resources. Facilitates and/or participates in the design, development, and implementation of large complex technology solutions supporting one or more business and/or technology areas. Develops and implements appropriate solutions that may involve multiple platforms, databases, software/hardware technologies and tools. Strong ability to multi-task in an environment of changing priorities.
This position may be based 100% remotely or in one of our offices.
Primary Job Duties & Responsibilities
Meet with internal customers to review, evaluate and provide direction for our monitoring and observability solutions
Maintain and troubleshoot the current monitoring infrastructure for the public cloud
Participation in a regular on-call support rotation
Research and thoroughly study documentation to implement new tools or features of existing tools
Meet and collaborate with peers to continuously learn and evolve our suite of tools
Maintain an open relationship with business areas to increase adoption of our existing tools
Help develop the technology framework for success, ensuring best practices are in place and being followed as it relates to emerging technologies and as it relates to Travelers established guidelines
Interface with software vendors and employees within the organization with regards to emerging technologies and new product testing
Be a partner in the enterprise design roadmap, providing business, governance and technical recommendations
Participate in the Request for Information (RFI) process with vendors on exploration of emerging tools
Assist in the onboarding of emerging technologies in either a Proof of Technology or a Proof of Concept fashion
Partner with architecture teams on developing the overall strategic vision for Travelers technology road map
Minimum Qualifications
A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or its equivalent in work experience, required.
Three years of experience in Technology required.
Education, Work Experience, & Knowledge
Knowledge and experience with a public cloud provider (AWS, GCP or Azure) is required
Five years of experience in Technology preferred
Experience providing technical direction to project teams preferred
Working knowledge of infrastructure technologies such as Network, Database, Server, Storage etc. preferred
Job Specific Technical Skills & Competencies
Experience with monitoring and observability suite is preferred. OpenSearch and/or Datadog experience is a plus
Experience with CloudWatch (AWS) or equivalents in GCP or Azure is preferred
Experience with infrastructure as code tools such as ansible and terraform
Knowledge of Linux based operating systems with a focus on RHEL
Knowledge and experience writing scripts is preferred. Experience with Python or Golang is a plus
Knowledge of software installation and maintenance techniques preferred
Experience providing technical direction to project teams preferred
Demonstrated ability to self-teach/self-learn new technologies
Excellent presentation and writing skills
Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
Preferred License and Certifications
