About The Role

The Head of Research is on the C-Suite (Senior Management Team) is responsible to execute the Cure Kids five-year research strategy, vision led and donor support. The role plays a key leadership role in the ongoing development of the research strategy to ensure that Cure Kids enhances its research profile and increases the efficacy and quality of research undertaken to create healthier lives for children. The role works across the C-Suite to ensure that Cure Kids’ achievements in research connect to the securing of major gifts and grants, and is well communicated. The role is a key support to accompany the CEO to speak and interact with key partners and potential donors.

The role leads the Research and Grants area to convene and manage the Medical and Scientific Advisory Committee (MSAC) to advise on and assess potential research projects to ensure scientific veracity. It ensures the stewardship of research opportunities and projects from initial potential through research, outcomes, seed funding and venture development through to capital investment opportunities ensuring oversight of the full chain of research development and opportunities. The role identifies trends and stays abreast of developments in all aspects of child health research to ensure Cure Kids maintains its position as a leading voice for improving the health of children, drive the development.

About You

You will be a person with a high level of technical expertise with a relevant tertiary qualification — a focus within the health sciences and research sector would be advantageous. You would ideally have an excellent knowledge of the child health research funding environment in New Zealand and international markets. We need confidence in your ability to commission and evaluate research but maintain very good relationships with partners and stakeholders where they give us positive feedback on your approaches with them. We are looking for a person who has a real connection and passion for the work, is a great communicator and an excellent teammate. We need your passion to be balanced by your management ability. The person will be a key support to the work of the CEO and needs that level of strategic ability and ease in external events, speaking publicly and with key partners and potential donors.
