Summary You will serve as an IT CYBERSECURITY SPECIALIST (INFOSEC) in the 1st Network Battalion of U S MARINE FORCES CYBERSPACE COMMAND. Responsibilities You will develop, manage, and maintain the Cybersecurity Program for the command. Provides technical direction to a staff of military, civilian, and contractor personnel. You will serve as a Cybersecurity Subject Matter Expert and POC to adjacent and higher command authorities, external agencies, and departments. You will coordinate with system administrators in monitoring the network for vulnerabilities and compromises. You will coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure implementation of security measures and to work through all potential issues You will assist Information Systems Security Manager (ISSM) with the facilitation of Command Inspections. You will maintain cybersecurity files by receiving, processing, and filing information systems security forms, documents, and agreements. You will audit security clearance requirements for information systems access, in accordance with DoD guidelines. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications You must have one year of information technology related experience in the federal service or private or public sector demonstrating the following four competencies, as defined: 1. Attention to Detail – Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail. IT-related experience demonstrating this competency include: Remains up-to-date on the latest security and cyber defense information in order to validate the security analysis and identification capabilities of the security operations technologies and tools. 2. Customer Service – Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services. IT-related experience demonstrating this competency include: Continually evaluates current system security posture, monitors activities, and assesses the security awareness knowledge of staff as it relates to assigned areas of responsibility. Advises assigned business entities on methods to improve security posture. 3. Oral Communication – Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately. IT-related experience demonstrating this competency include: Notifies designated managers, cyber incident responders, and cybersecurity service provider team members of suspected cyber incidents and articulates the event’s history, status, and potential impact for further action in accordance with the organization’s cyber incident response plan. 4. Problem Solving – Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations. IT-related experience demonstrating this competency include: Evaluates data collected from a variety of cyber defense tools (e.g., intrusion detection system (IDS) alerts, firewalls, network traffic logs, etc.) to analyze incidents and events at the systems or network level in order to mitigate threats. In addition to your experience demonstrating the four competencies above, you must have directly applicable experience that demonstrates the possession of knowledge, skills, abilities, and competencies necessary for immediate success in the position. Qualifying experience may have been acquired in any public or private sector job, but will clearly demonstrate past experience in the application of the particular competencies or knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to successfully perform the duties of the position. Such experience is typically in or directly relates to the work of the position to be filled. Qualifying experience would be demonstrated by: Utilizing complex knowledge of computer languages, utilities, machines, and access languages; analyzing and validating network and intrusion detection system alerts; and analyzing and adapting established tools and methods to enhance cyber defense.
