Summary This position is located in the United States Mint, Office of the Director, Safety and and Occupational Division. As a/an Secretary, you will be performing administrative and clerical office support for the Chief and or subordinate staff of an organizational unit and typing PC processing duties. Perform time and leave functions and may be serving as back-up Secretary in other areas. Responsibilities As a/an Secretary, you will: Receive, screen, and distributes all incoming mail and correspondence to the office/organization involved. Handle routine matters on the basis of own knowledge and routes more technical matters to the appropriate staff member Type a variety of material including correspondence, studies, memoranda, reports, contracts, etc., with full responsibility for proper format, clarity, punctuation, grammar, arrangement and space of material, formal and appropriate attachments. Must be U.S. Citizen or U.S. National Qualifications You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement. In addition to meeting experience or education requirements, applicants for this position must posses a typing speed of at least 40 words per minute (wpm). Applicants may meet these requirements by passing the appropriate performance test, presenting a certificate of proficiency from a school or other organization authorized to issue such certificates by the Office of Personnel Management local office, or by self-certifying their proficiency. Performance test results and certificates of proficiency are acceptable for 3 years. Agencies may verify proficiency skills of self-certified applicants by administering the appropriate performance test. AND For the GS-5, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-4 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes: preparing correspondence using correct grammar and punctuation, AND communicating with internal and external customers to provide information. Examples of this may include: – Creating documents reflecting meeting notes; OR – Answering and directing calls to different departments; OR – Preparing reports for management review. OR You may substitute education for specialized experience as follows: 4 years above high school OR You may qualify by a combination of experience and education NOTE: Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience. Education Education Requirements: The education generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. If you are qualifying based on foreign education, you must submit proof of creditability of education as evaluated by a credentialing agency. Refer to the OPM instructions.
