Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity
Primarily, you will be responsible for operating and developing our OpenStack-based research cloud. Our OpenStack instance is part of a federated Australian research cloud, so you will engage and collaborate with other OpenStack operators and the core services team in Australia.
We assume you bring a strong grounding in at least two of: (i) Linux System Administration (ii) Administration of OpenStack (iii) Administration of complex service infrastructures, along with strong skills in scripting/programming in bash and Python and general expertise in areas such as: IP networks, Linux virtual networking, solutions architecture, devops, automation, databases, analytics, monitoring, logging, documentation system, and training.
You will also engage with researchers and IT service providers across the university to co-develop, describe and deliver other research services and infrastructure including our data transfer and storage services to enable researcher success.
From time to time you may also deliver educational workshops to help researchers or colleagues to learn new digital skills (we teach Software and Data Carpentry).

The Centre for eResearch is a cross-faculty research platform at The University of Auckland. Our mission is to develop new ways to apply computer and information technology to research disciplines, and then help researchers to use them. This mission applies to the entire range of research disciplines across the university, although the support we provide may vary by community.
We seek creative, enthusiastic, and talented people to join our eResearch group who enjoy interacting with researchers and working in a very dynamic team environment. You will contribute to and benefit from the team’s broad skill base and be excited by the opportunity to work across multiple disciplines and likely in a variety of different capacities. Researcher needs are always changing, so the support we offer is constantly evolving to keep pace with emerging needs and opportunities.

He kōrero mōu |About you
You enjoy problem solving and analytics and have a strong understanding of cloud compute infrastructures (e.g., OpenStack), key networking services, protocols, OSI and TCP/IP models of network layers. You also have experience as a Linux administrator using bash and python and an ability to build and use virtual environments.
Being familiar with working in an open collaborative environment and with a demonstrated competency to communicate and work effectively across teams, you will contribute to and benefit from our broad skill-base and be excited by the opportunity to work across multiple disciplines and likely in a variety of different capacities.
Experience working across security or privacy-related techniques, or research systems would be an advantage.
