Edinburgh University Library is recruiting for a Metadata Team Leader to join the Metadata Services Team, based in the Main Library building. The post holder will oversee workflows and initiatives to source and produce metadata that realises Edinburgh University Library’s diverse collections via online discovery tools. This post is offered on a permanent, full time basis.
The Opportunity:
This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and experienced metadata and cataloguing professional to Join the Metadata Services Team.
You will line manage members of the Metadata Team, along with supervising ongoing and project work which produces accurate, high quality metadata for the Library’s new physical and electronic acquisitions, legacy and special collections, and for the Edinburgh Research Archive institutional repository.
With excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, you will be responsible for co-coordinating operational team activities in line with priorities agreed with your line manager, ensuring the timely production and delivery of bibliographic records and metadata.
With a broad knowledge of a variety of library systems and services, particularly in the areas of cataloguing/metadata and resource discovery, you will also have the ability to build effective relationships with colleagues in other Information Services teams.
Your skills and attributes for success:
- Experience of working in academic libraries, preferably within a cataloguing and classification/metadata environment
- Comprehensive knowledge of international and local cataloguing and classification standards and reference tools (e.g. RDA, MARC21, LCSH, LCC, Dublin Core)
- Good general IT skills, including Microsoft Office packages and a thorough working knowledge of integrated library management systems, particularly the cataloguing/metadata and resource discovery modules
- Strong team player with capacity to complete projects collaboratively and independently
- Ability to work to deadlines while maintaining a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
- Experience of supervising staff
