This permanent post is available from September 2022.This post will be on an annualised hour contract (paid over 52 weeks). The anticipated working pattern being 18.25 hours a week over 30 weeks, primarily in the university term time. The role is based on our Streatham Campus in Exeter, although occasional home working could be considered.
Summary of Role
We are currently seeking to recruit a flexible and adaptable mentors to join our highly skilled and committed mentoring team. This role involves delivering specialist and tailored one to one mentoring to disabled students studying at The University of Exeter. The role supports students in their academic progression, promoting strategies for independent learning and self-management. The team are part of the University’s Wellbeing and Welfare Service, which also includes our Psychological Therapies team, AccessAbility team and Welfare service.
This is an exciting and rewarding opportunity to join an innovative service, allowing you to develop your skills and engage in inclusive new projects. The post holder will need to work as part of a team, whilst also being responsible for their own individual work. There will be a need to work credibly with academic and professional services staff within the University as part of this role.
What we are looking for
You will be a skilled and experienced practitioner who has a thoughtful and adaptable approach to your work, as well as a real interest in managing challenging situations whilst sensitively supporting students. It’s essential you have relevant experience and professional qualifications to be familiar with current issues regarding support for neurodiverse students as you will primarily work with autistic students. In all circumstances, you must meet the DSA DfE Mandatory Criteria for Band 4 Specialist Mentor.
The role involves close liaison and joint working across the Wellbeing Service to support students with a range of disabilities alongside liaison with other university staff and external agencies (e.g. GP, statutory mental health services and voluntary sector agencies). You will also be committed to the advancement of inclusive practice and widening access to this important student community.
