INTERNATIONAL OFFICE
About Our Team/Mō Te Tīma
Ranked within the top 1% of universities in the world, the University of Otago has a proud history in teaching and research excellence, and a well-established international reputation.
The International Marketing and Recruitment Team is responsible for the recruitment of international students, enhancing Otago’s profile internationally, and identifying and maximising international business development opportunities. The team comprises International Regional Market Managers and International Marketing Coordinators.
The role/Te mahi
We are currently looking for an enthusiastic, creative and digitally savvy International Marketing Coordinator to join our team.
The International Marketing Coordinators are a key part of the International Marketing and Recruitment team and are involved in a diverse range of activities. The nature of international marketing means that these are not typical ‘marketing’ roles, as our various activities require skills in not only marketing, but administration, stakeholder management (internal and external), customer service and sound technical skills to work comfortably with a range of university systems.
Each International Marketing Coordinator is typically responsible for an area of work such as digital marketing, student ambassador management, content and publications, and agent administration. International Marketing Coordinators support their fellow coordinators in their areas of specialisation, as well as the activities of the wider International Marketing and Recruitment team.
The key focus for this particular role will be on digital marketing and content production in support of our overall international marketing and recruitment strategy.
Tasks include working with international students to curate and create engaging content for social channels, generating content to align with core brand messages as well as content to meet partner requests, coordinating the international Instagram account and other social media accounts, producing digital content and creative assets, executing digital marketing campaigns, preparing presentation slide decks, coordinating film briefs and supporting film project delivery, photoshoots, student ambassador engagement, and support with a range of other marketing activities and events ranging from merchandise, to live webinars, to open day events.
This is a busy role with plenty of opportunity to gain solid hands-on experience and to learn on the job with the support of experienced international market managers and international marketing leaders.
Key to being successful in this role will be your ability to work efficiently, to keep updated with latest social media trends and try new ideas, and to produce and generate engaging content with confidence.
As a team we work in an exciting, fast-paced environment which demands flexibility and adaptability to respond to various market demands through our core marketing and recruitment cycle. The international higher education sector offers a range of career opportunities across the world – this is a great opportunity to get a foot in the door!
Your skills and experience/Kā Pūkeka Me Kā Wheako
This role would suit a recent marketing or communications graduate who is confident and motivated to kick-start their career in a fast-paced, internationally focused team environment; or someone with prior social media management/digital marketing experience focused on international audiences or international higher education.
As a person, you will be a positive and bubbly personality who enjoys meeting people and can relate well to students and people from a variety of cultures.
Given content production is a core focus of the role you must be comfortable with and have some experience in creating videos (in both long-form and short form), reels, graphic artworks, script writing as well as having some knowledge and initial experience in executing digital marketing campaigns.
You will be comfortable and familiar in working with a variety of social channels and have skills and confidence in working with apps/software that enable video editing and image editing, for instance Canva, CapCut, Microsoft PowerPoint, Photoshop.
Strong written English and verbal communication skills are essential, as well as the interpersonal skills required to operate within a large and diverse organisation, and the intercultural skills required to engage with people from different countries.
Above all, we are looking for a positive and proactive team player who is eager to learn, never hesitates to offer assistance to colleagues, is always looking for ways to improve, and enjoys giving something new a go.
