The Greenhouse Assistant performs essential maintenance in the Biology Department greenhouse and adjacent growing areas on weekends and holidays.
Job Description
The Biology Department Greenhouse Assistant performs essential maintenance in the greenhouse and adjacent growing areas on weekends and holidays. The primary function of this position is to check on and water plants in the greenhouse, shade house and cold frame. In addition, they perform routine maintenance tasks in the greenhouse and head house including plant cleanup, pot washing, pressure washing floors, repotting and propagation. On occasion, duties also include event cleanup or setup at the picnic area outside the greenhouse. As the sole representative of the greenhouse and garden team on site during weekends and holidays, the Greenhouse Assistant is also responsible for observing and reporting any abnormalities or malfunctions in the facility to their on-call supervisor. Candidates must be able to work independently, possess a keen eye for detail, and be consistent, thorough and reliable in their work. Some plant knowledge, especially concerning watering needs of multiple species or plant types is preferred.
Qualifications:
- Candidates with greenhouse or landscape experience preferred.
- High school diploma or G.E.D. is required.
Hours: Saturday, Sunday and Holidays Only. Typically 10 hours per week, plus 12 additional holidays. 5 hr days. (580 hours per year)
Compensation: $15/hr
