The University of West London (UWL) is one of the top 40 universities in the UK and the top modern university in London according to the influential Guardian University Guide 2021*.
We were also named University of the Year for Student Experience in The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2021, being described by the editor as “regularly among the top-performing universities” and proving that “it is possible for a London-based institution to achieve outstanding levels of student satisfaction beyond other universities”.
The Department
Library Services is at the heart of the student and academic experience at the University of West London, facilitating creation of knowledge and ideas and developing confident, critically information-literate professionals. We place value on supporting our institutional mission of extending higher education to those traditionally excluded from it, and in facilitating research and scholarship in ways that connect with equity and widening participation.
The Role
We are looking for a Subject Librarian to join the UWL Library Team to work with the School of Law and the subject areas of Criminology and Policing. This is a permanent and full-time role.
You will be the main contact between the library and the School of Law and the subject areas of Criminology and Policing and will be responsible for liaison and communication between both parties. The role will cover designing and teaching information literacy classes to students and develop additional material including video tutorials. You will provide enquiry support for students and staff, both online and in person, including 1-2-1 appointments. You will be responsible for collection management for the subject areas with a focus on creating an inclusive library collection.
You will be part of a team of subject librarians and assistant librarians and will work collaboratively on projects and initiatives across Library Services.
The Person
We are looking for a pro-active librarian with a positive approach to service development and excellent communication skills. You will have experience of working in a library environment with a professional library qualification or equivalent experience.
You do not need to have previous experience of subject librarianship within these subject areas or experience of working in a HE Library.
