Our geographical reach covers Waihi Beach to Paengaroa and while our focus is on hospice-at-home, we also have an established inpatient unit and we support a large community team. About The Job

An exciting opportunity exists for a suitably qualified Health Care Assistant to join our team at Waipuna Hospice for 58.5 hours per fortnight. This role is based in the Inpatient Unit and will cover 9, 6.5 hour shifts per fortnight. There is also an opportunity for Health Care Assistants looking for casual shifts.

As a Health Care Assistant, you will work in our Inpatient Unit assisting patients with personal cares and doing general duties.

Ideal applicants will be empathetic, caring and comfortable caring for people who have a terminal illness. Previous personal cares experience is essential, and preference will be given to applicants with relevant qualifications and palliative care experience.

Applicants will also need to have a current driver’s licence, vehicle and mobile phone and the legal right to work in New Zealand.

Skills and Experiences:

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

• Previous personal care experience, qualifications level HCA 3 or 4
• An understanding of Hospice philosophy and comfortable caring for people who are terminally ill
• Ability to communicate sensitively with patients and family
• Be able to work under the supervision of a Registered Nurse and at the same time show initiative and be supportive to the team as a whole
• Comfortable working around grief and loss
• Emotional maturity and resilience
• A visible passion for provision of care with the field of palliative care
• A collaborative working style, enabling the creation of strong and effective relationships with peers and other colleagues
