WEA Hiring for Sessional Tutor – Adult Education Job at Birmingham, England , UK Full Time

This role is for tutors who are willing to teach face to face classes in an adult education setting/community learning setting. Ability to teach employability, digital skills and confidence building to students who may not have English as their first language. Primarily in locations across the Birmingham area with potential to travel to Coventry, Sandwell, Wolverhampton, Dudley

As a Sessional Tutor you are required to carry out the following duties in the context of the WEA`s policies and practices, particularly Equality and Diversity, Health and Safety and Data Protection, and those of any host organisations, including informing students of their obligations:

• Plan, deliver and report on your course online and face to face;
• Prepare/adapt appropriate teaching materials on Canvas;
• Identify/assess the needs of students and if necessary adapt course content and delivery style to meet these needs;
• Comply with the WEA policy on Equality and Diversity so that all students are treated with respect and dignity in an environment in which a diversity of backgrounds and experience is valued;
• Discuss Learning Outcomes or Moderation Requirements with students as the course proceeds;
• Enable your students to participate in the WEA by affording time for distribution of any relevant notices or information, and ensuring they know about the organisation and how they can become a voluntary member;
• Liaise with Branch/Centre Head/Caretaker to be aware of venue, resources and administration, including procedures in case of fire and other health and safety issues;
• Evaluate the effectiveness of learning and assess students` work;
• Offer advice on further learning and progression opportunities to students as required;
• Ensure that all required paperwork (It is vital for funding purposes that these documents are received promptly). The tutor will collate this information on Canvas;
• Undertake continuing professional development required to maintain your professional status;
• Where appropriate, attend moderation meetings;
• Maintain contact and liaise with Branch or Partner organisation, where appropriate.

About you:

WEA currently works with a number of grass roots, community-based organisations in Birmingham, who work with disadvantaged learners from both established and new communities. These courses are delivered primarily in face to face with learners in classroom settings.

We are looking for tutors with:

• A recognised teaching qualification (PGCE, DTLLS, Cert Ed or appropriate professional experience)
• Experience of delivering non-accredited courses in community settings
• An understanding of the Education Inspection Framework, RARPA and quality assurance processes
• Excellent interpersonal and organisational skills
