Position Summary
The Diet Technician/ Nutrition Assistant is at the forefront of customer service providing patients and guests with service above and beyond expectations to ensure a memorable food and dining experience. The Diet Technician/ Nutrition Assistant ensures that all records pertaining to patient meals and diets are kept up to date, and to compile reports concerning patient diets and monthly statistics. He / She must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to his or her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department’s policies and procedures.
Qualifications
Must have the ability to speak and read English, and be able to follow verbal directions.
Ability to read Dietary manual.
Office experience preferred.
Essential Functions of the Job
Required skills and competencies. Has competency checklist been completed with all competencies met (i.e. job skills / knowledge, equipment knowledge)?
Performs a variety of duties using Nutrition Service and Room Service software and Electronic Medical Record (EMR) to maintain optimum efficiency of operations in the Diet Office.
Supports patient tray-line assembly process through the timely printing of patient meal tickets.
Prepare servings according to portion control, covering all food items and labeling all special foods with special food tape (i.e. diet, etc.).
Works to ensure that each patient receives food in accordance with his/her prescribed diet and in support of medical staff orders and consistent with the objectives and the policies of the Hospital.
Patient Tracking Board will be kept up to date per admissions/discharges and as diet changes occur.
Patient menus/tickets will be prepared, noting all special diets and any special instructions, as well as portion size.
Provide Clerical support to the Registered Dietitian and/or Support Services Manager (ie. Quality Measurement tracking, typing schedule, monthly calendar, etc…)
Stocks vending machines, minimum of three times per week; notify the Dietitian of needed items so that they are obtained.
Models excellent customer service skills with patients nursing staff and visitors including person to person telephone and written communication formats.
Workload will vary due to census. The following duties may be required: Assist with functions; preparation of food; performing other dietary related tasks in the absence of staff; Special cleaning and organization of paper and stock room.
Keep functions’ calendar up to date and print current copy for Lead Cook / Cooks
Delivering and picking up of tray carts before and after meals.
Responsible for assisting with Dishwasher job functions.
Manages time effectively to ensure that deadlines are met and that personal priorities support organizational objectives.
Perform other duties as specified by the Support Services Manager and/or Chef.
