We have several high-profile projects under development that will reshape how New Zealanders interact with their bank. We are building the next generation of Consumer Banking Platforms, modernizing the service layer of our Online Banking system by migrating containerized Microservices, fully digitizing consumer online onboarding. These are just some of the exciting projects we’re working on.

How will you help?

We’re looking for highly engaged, passionate and curious engineers to lead our merry band as they tackle the exciting challenges ahead of us. We are creating a culture of engineering excellence with a focus on quality and reliability at pace. As a Chapter Lead you will split your time between people leadership, mentoring, and hands-on-tools contribution to your team’s goals, all in an Agile environment.

Key responsibilities

• Impact the Software Engineering practice at Westpac
• Move the needle, shift the ground, Grow a Better New Zealand
• Recruitment
• Ensuring engineers are sufficiently trained via mentoring and coaching
• Line management of any direct reports
• Identifying and leading opportunities to improve our craft, practices, and tools.
• Lead good modern engineering practices

What you’ll need to succeed

• A positive, problem-solving attitude and ability to collaborate and contribute in a team setting.
• A desire to develop and improve your craft
• Be passionate about helping others grow through support and mentorship
• Significant experience as a Software Engineer
• Proficiency with Agile working methodologies and teams
• Experience with Java, APIs, Microservices, SpringBoot (beneficial), Maven, Jenkins, CI/CD, Docker, Kubernetes
• Experience with Payments processing would be beneficial
