Weta Digital Hiring for VAD (Virtual Art Dept) Junior Artist Job at Wellington , New Zealand Full Time

Weta Digital has an exciting opportunity for a junior artist to join our VAD team.

We are looking for a Generalist/Modeller/Texture Artist who can help to create virtual environments and sets for Previs and Real Time Motion Capture from high resolution geo/drawings/scans within our Virtual Art Department.

The Virtual Art Department is one of only a few of its kind in the world. Our small and passionate team of generalists deliver real-time assets for Mocap, Previs and Animation using the unique Weta proprietary pipeline and contribute to the successful delivery of shows. Your skills and experience:

• Experience in production environments with the ability to create accurate models from 2d reference, previs and scan data
• At least 2 years of professional Maya 3D experience
• Have quick & efficient UV & texture skills for texturing assets using Photoshop, Quixel, Substance Painter and/or Mari
• Experience with Zbrush and Mudbox Experience with Cyslice and UVLayout would be a plus
• Be a Maya 3D Generalist with strong modelling & texturing skills
• Have some basic layout knowledge
• A qualification in graphic design and multimedia and relevant work experience in games, VR, VFX or commercial related industries

To be successful in this role you will:

• Have a show reel that demonstrates a range of organic and hard surface models with clean and efficient topology (preferably with wireframe stills)
• Be able to work under pressure and to tight deadlines, taking direction and addressing written and verbal notes with quick turnarounds
• Enjoy a constantly changing work environment, and be able to compromise and take critique well
• Have basic research skills, be able to interpret architectural plans and scan data, with a strong understanding of scale with a talent for real world accuracy
• Have the ability to model as part of a team, to share assets, work to a high standard and quality check your own and other’s work
