Water Meter Reader performs a variety of duties including locating and reading residential and commercial radio read water meters and recording readings using computerized hand held equipment; checking to see that meters are functioning properly; repairing meters and registers; maintaining parts inventory records; cleaning out flooded and buried meters and repair meter boxes and broken box lids; and assists maintenance crews, in projects such as utility leak repairs. The position requires a unique combination of skills and experience in water utility maintenance and customer service skills. Connecting and disconnecting water utility services require tact and excellent communication skills while maintaining utility maintenance knowledge and skills. The incumbent usually works alone but the team projects require an ability to work effectively in teams. Ability to use and/or learn to use city owned computers that has the Neptune 360 program for water meter is a requirement. High School degree or G.E.D. with a minimum of two (2) years of experience in public works maintenance in water services, or a combination of training, education, and experience that is equivalent to the employment standard listed above and that provides the required knowledge and abilities. Other Requirements: Valid Oregon class C driver’s license and the ability to meet the City of Woodburn’s driving standards Must pass the pre-employment background check Preferred Qualifications: Possess the following training/certifications or ability to obtain and maintain after employment: Forklift, flagger, first aid/CPR, Shoring Bilingual Spanish/English
