Education:
University Degree in a related field (such as Social Sciences, Business, Science/Engineering) or an equivalent of 4 years recent experience (defined as within the last five years) working at York University and performing the same or similar tasks. This education equivalency is in addition to the experiential requirements outlined below. Career Development Practitioner certification is an asset.
Experience:
One (1) year progressive and recent experience working with students in a fast-paced post-secondary co-operative education, internship, or other experiential education program, or in a business setting performing placement, employment training or a related function is required. Previous work experience should also include outreach and marketing that includes making public presentations for instructional & informational purposes. Training and/or experience in student affairs, career development, experiential education, student career advising an asset. Experience coordinating volunteers is an asset.
Skills:
Knowledge of the following: labour market trends, employment legislation, employability skills, job search and career development techniques and strategies.
Ability to establish and maintain collaborative relationships with students, faculty, administration, employers, and the community at large via a variety of communications methods, including social media, and through networking/relationship building.
Excellent customer service orientation and oral and written communication skills are required with internal and external stakeholders.
Highly developed interpersonal, influencing and marketing skills are required to promote Lassonde students and to recruit employers to participate in LSE’s Co-op Program.
Strong oral and written communication skills for a variety of audiences including students, faculty, administration, employers, and the community.
Ability to design and facilitate relevant educational presentations to the student body as part of job readiness training is essential.
Ability to develop promotional and presentation materials for employers and community.
Outstanding attention to accuracy and detail working cooperatively as a member of a team to meet unit goals and objectives.
Excellent organizational skills including ability to multi-task.
Good judgment and decision-making skills.
Intermediate to advanced skills in MS Office Suite (i.e.., Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Proficient in electronic mail and computerized scheduling (Lotus Notes preferred), Student Information System (SIS), databases and social media.
Able to explain the use of online employment technologies to students and employers.
